SLOW PHOTOGRAPHY with ALPA
Thierry Burgherr about his experience working with ALPA cameras

SLOW PHOTOGRAPHY
Text by ALPA photographer Thierry Burgherr
Photography with the ALPA system is not just about capturing images; it is a form of wellness for the soul – photography with the eye and the heart.
Digital photography has become increasingly hectic, and even when taking a professional approach, one is often tempted simply to press the shutter again and then search for the best result on the large screen back in the studio.
Almost 27 years on from my first experiences with architectural photography, I recall the milestones.
Buying a tilt-shift lens for my SLR, and later investing in a panoramic tripod to ensure the nodal point was perfectly aligned. And then, at some point, making the move to medium format. Photography with the ALPA is changing my workflow. I choose the tripod’s position with even greater precision.

Sometimes, a matter of centimetres makes all the difference to the tension in the image.
The technical adjustment options make it possible to ‘correct’ the image whilst still on site, to render sloping lines in the architecture accurately, or to present a line of sight in an engaging way. And the choice of components in front of or behind the camera body itself allows for countless combinations for both analogue and digital work. Investing an ALPA body is like a ticket to a whole new universe. And the journey continues ever onwards to new galaxies …
